It looks as though the Homestar Rules community is no more. There appears to be a domain squatter in its place now. Can anybody help me figure out what happened? Did it move somewhere else? Did something happen to Simon?
Ok, the last time I was at homestarrunner.net it was a flash-video not a forum/network. When did this site get changed? I like it since I love homestar, and have been wanting to join a forum, but I can tell this place has alot of work... Whats the plans for this badboy?
In response, six, nine, 1924, NASA, and Battleship Potemkin, respectively. In all seriousness though, this site was gifted to Joey Day in late September of 2005, and for a while it redirected to HRWiki.org while discussion took place on what to do with it. It was eventually decided that HRNet would be a "portal site" and went into private alpha and beta development for several months. In January of 2007, HRNet went public and we're currently in a pre-content forum-like phase.
Current times aside, HRNet will not be a forum in its final form, nor will it include one. As a social portal, however, it will be linking to plenty of other ones. Once the brainstorming process is finished, we'll get a node up regarding the plans for this "bad boy". :P — Lapper (talk)
First of all, I'd like to say it's good to see the old .net domain getting used for something. Myself and the other former admins had some pretty grand plans, but nothing ever got done due to busy schedules and general life stuff. Like I said, it's great to see something up :)
Second, I'd like to vouch for simon... I didn't exactly have great things to say about him when the community switched gears, but he wasn't really t a bad person per se. A bit anti social at times, perhaps, but not such a bad guy, he was just a bit laz(and busy), and tried to do too much himself.
That said, the community went downhill anyhow... it became a popularity contest based on who had the most free time to post in meaningless posts. Granted, I was a part of that for a time, but it got stale fast. It wasn't surprising when it went down...
My guess is that simon got busy and just decided to take it down one day without any notice.
I do know from experience. He was. Ask anyone over at Socks and Vinegar.
Here's how it progressed for those who don't know.
Homestarunner.net (the original) went down, everyone went to homestarrules. Homestarrules failed miserably, because of simon, and people started leaving. Eventually rules went down and Tsuta created Socks and Vinegar. (originally called Rules replacement). So SnV is like 75% people from the original .net (which was admined by Marc and Matts). But yeah, the old vets at SnV can tell you. Simon was a bad admin.

Hooooomsar
.net original.
I don't know the details, or what happened to simon, but I do know that much of the H*Rules community ended up at Socks and Vinegar. Someone there'd probably know more of the details.
Apparently this sort of thing has happened before, and for weeks at a time. I wouldn't worry about it too much; there doesn't seem to be any mass hysteria. — Lapper (talk)

Hey now
That's pretty uncalled for. I'm sure Simon wasn't a bad person, although I can't say that from personal experience. — Lapper (talk)

Thank you
Thank you for the link. I've been wondering for months where everyone went.
Sad..
I didn't even know they were a site. Sad that another Homestar loving community is gone...
And you don't want an octopus squatting on your brain, do you?
