Welcome to the Homestar Runner Network. Together, we're building a Homestar Runner meta-community — a community of communities. We should make it clear we're not affiliated with the Brothers Chaps or Harmless Junk, Inc. We just really dig what they do and want to help other people discover their work and buy stuff from them.
We're looking for your favorite H*R fansites so we can get this site off the ground. If there's a fansite you run, are a member of, or otherwise have interest in, now's the time to let us know.
Homestar v2 is a standard blog with various functions. Its author updates its content weekly, that being links to featured H*R cartoons et al, and has a handsomely sized guestbook to show for it. It may not be on anyone's map, but it's a site dedicated to H*R and it has an author proud enough to submit it. A big thank you to Home Bad for the first fan site submission to HRNet. To the rest of you, get your favorite H*R fansites up here by clicking the contact link up top and telling us where to go.
The Homestar Runner Wiki is an extensive database of Hometar Runner information in the form of a wiki; that is, almost any article can be edited by anyone. This format facilitates rapid construction, discussion, and improvement so that articles can be as presentable as possible; something clearly visible in HRWiki. One of HRWiki's most well-known practices is to transcribe, in full and very quickly, every new cartoon that The Brothers Chaps release. Additionally, users of the wiki consistently take it upon themselves to revert malicious edits to articles, preserving the integrity of the database around the clock. Everyone is welcome and may partake in diverse areas of the site, including the main knowledge base, the fan material base, the forum, and the IRC channel.
Hey, everyone, I realize it's been a while since anything got done around here, but let me assure you that we are working on it. On that note, as you can see up top, there's now a Directory link, which will soon be populated by nodes describing the various fan sites we come upon and those you send to us. You also may have noticed the vote up/vote down arrows to the left of comments, which eventually will help useful comments be seen and useless ones buried. Don't hesitate to submit a Homestar Runner fan site you frequent, or to let someone else know what's going on around here, or even to stop by our barren IRC channel, #hrnet @ Freenode. With your help, this site will become a great portal for everyone.
I've added the Akismet spam module to the site since we've been getting some spam already. I've also enabled 48×48 avatars. I'm also actively seeking mods and admins for the site. If you're interested and think you has what it takes (e.g. experience with PHP, MySQL, and either Drupal or some other blogging platform/CMS, plus lots of time on your hands) please contact us. Feedback of any kind is also much appreciated.
Just writing these down for future reference and so I can get some feedback. I was chatting with Lapper and he recommend a couple of enhancements for the site:
Additionally, I'd like to see:
What do you think? If you're interested in making your own suggestions, poke around on Drupal.org for new modules and enhancement ideas. We'll implement these enhancements given there's enough community desire for them.
It looks as though the Homestar Rules community is no more. There appears to be a domain squatter in its place now. Can anybody help me figure out what happened? Did it move somewhere else? Did something happen to Simon?
The Homestar Runner Network is the newest online community for fans of the Homestar Runner cartoons created by The Brothers Chaps. There are already hundreds of vibrant Homestar Runner fan communities on the net, so why build a new one? We call this a meta-community because we're not so much concerned with making connections and relationships between individuals, but with making connections and relationships between communities themselves. This is a community of communities.
If you're already a member of a Homestar Runner fan community, this site will eventually help you learn what's going on outside your neighborhood. If you don't already belong to a community, this site will also help you discover new communities you might be comfortable joining.
The Network is built on the shiny new Drupal 5.0 platform, which has a number of great features out of the box and thousands of available modules to extend its capabilities. Decisions remain to be made about which modules to employ in making this site the most fun and useful it can be. For now, we know we'd like to include the following features:
We're looking for knowledgeable developers, so if you're a Homestar Runner fan who's administered a Drupal site before, please contact us. If you have suggestions for features you'd like to see here, feel free to comment below.
